If you have experienced any of the above, you are most likely suffering from gum disease and you must visit a periodontist who can help you improve your gum health.

Our team will give you the ideal treatment for your needs and might recommend arestin for better improvement. Arestin, an adjunct to Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) is a great way to see pocket reduction quickly.

What is Arestin?

Arestin, also known as Minocycline HCl microspheres, is added at the end of SRP (Scaling and Root Planing) if you haven’t had improvement in gum pocket size. This antibiotic contains tiny bead-like particles filled with antibiotics, which are placed in your gums and released over time. Arestin helps to kill bacteria and potentiates the effects of SRP alone and to reduce gum pocket depth.

Benefits of Arestin Treatment

When Arestin is integrated into treatment plans, it offers many benefits to patients suffering from some stages of periodontal disease.

  • Arestin is locally applied and destroys the growth of bacteria
  • Painless
  • Doesn’t require needles
  • Works immediately
  • Releases antibiotics as needed over time
  • Affordable
  • Offers a non-surgical solution to patients battling periodontal disease
  • Brings your smile back to health

At Bellaire Periodontics, our team combines Arestin treatment with scaling and root for a faster and more effective treatment to control gum disease. In most localized areas, there is a gum pocket reduction of 2 to 3 mm. In generalized areas with calculus build up, there is a 1 to 2 mm pocket reduction.

After-care Instructions for Arestin Treatment

Arestin remains in the gum pocket for at least 14 days to ensure continued treatment. It is necessary you follow all aftercare steps to maintain healthy gums and have a successful treatment.

  1. Wait 12 hours after your Arestin treatment to brush your teeth.
  2. Wait 10 days to floss your teeth.
  3. Don’t eat hard, crunchy and sticky foods for at least 1 week after treatment.
  4. Make sure to follow up and keep your scheduled appointments.
